Israel and the Americans defy the call for peace!

Fierce fighting continues throughout the Gaza Strip as the resistance hits back at a brutal Zionist enemy that has now killed over 33,000 Palestinian Arabs – most of them women and children. It has also blocked water, food, and electricity to Gaza, plunging the Palestinian enclave into a humanitarian crisis. Despite the vetoes of the Americans People’s China and Russia, as well as other members on the UN Security Council, are continuing to push for an immediate ceasefire and the resumption of humanitarian aid to Gaza. And while the world cries out for an end to the fighting Israel launches new waves of rocket attacks on the defenceless Palestinian civilian population of Gaza.

Spring is here…

…and the conference season begins. Back in the halcyon days of the 1970s annual general conference was the high-spot of the year – with the fate of the leaderships and policies of the big factions of the left and the right of the labour movement resting on the whims of delegates whose own agendas had to be, at least considered, by the biggies who needed their precious votes on the floor. Some delegates simply took advantage of conference expenses to explore the attractions of the resorts they inevitably ended up in. Others relished the double-dealing and back-stabbing needed to climb up the greasy pole of union bureaucracy.

Back to the Future

Everybody expects the Conservatives to get trounced at the local elections next month. Few doubt the outcome with Labour still at least 18 points ahead in the opinion polls and the Tories undermined by growing support for the new Faragist Reform Party. But nothing can be taken for granted these days, least of all where Labour is concerned.
